Lachlan Ross and Cean Demecillo

Lachlan Ross and Cean Demecillo met in a human bioscience lab during their first year at Massey when Lachlan, who was studying psychology, found himself in the wrong lab session.

“He came in and sat right next to me,” says Cean, who was studying nursing at the time. “But he wasn’t even meant to be in that lab.”

Lachlan is about to kick off his final year while working as an operator at Wellington Hospital. Cean graduated with her nursing degree in 2021 and is also working at Wellington Hospital as a nurse.

The happy couple have been together four years in April and say they have many special memories together.

“One of the first times we hung out, we went to see the Brooklyn windmills together and Cean thought it was just a friendly hangout, but I thought it was a date,” says Lachlan.

One of Cean’s favourite memories is of Lachlan teaching her to snowboard over winter.

When asked what they would be doing to celebrate Valentine’s Day, they replied: “We don’t believe in making a big deal of loving each other once a year. We’ll probably have a dinner together, which is a rare treat because we are both shift workers.”
