Meet Yannika Harrop and Jake Berney, our inspiring alumni who recently earned their Bachelor of Sport and Exercise degrees. Yannika, from Taranaki, chose to attend Massey University, following in her father’s footsteps. Jake, originally from Wellington, was drawn to our programme by his passion for sports, “I’ve always loved sports. I really wanted to come to Massey for this.”

Their story began in the university halls, where they quickly bonded over their shared love for volleyball, a sport that held a significant place in their hearts. Their first meeting was marked by the joy of discovering mutual interests and the realisation that they were embarking on similar academic paths, laying the foundation for a strong friendship.

Their university experience was a transformative journey in terms of individual growth and building a life together - from providing academic support to fostering personal development. The joy of witnessing each other's graduation was a cherished moment, shared with friends who had become family.

As they look to the future, Yannika is pursuing a Diploma in Massage Therapy. Jake is focusing on strength and conditioning training and is already making strides with the Upper Hutt football and rugby teams.
