Susana Mahe recently completed her Bachelor of Nursing at Massey University. Initially from Tonga, Susana started her studies in 2020, beginning with a certificate in English and Science and Technology before progressing to her Bachelor of Nursing in 2021.

Among the myriad of emotions on her graduation day, one of the most inspiring moments for Susana was having her mother by her side. “I’m so overjoyed that I could bring my mom here. My family flew in last night just for the graduation, and we’re leaving tomorrow. Having one of my parents here with me is a truly special feeling to witness this day.”

Susana attributes her success to the encouragement and support of her parents and her village back home. “The way we live back home is way behind New Zealand. New Zealand is more advanced. I want to take all the things that I learned here, especially in the hospitals, and apply them back home. Hopefully, I can make a change.”

Armed with her new degree, Susana is eager to return to home. Her goal is to utilise her skills and knowledge to enhance healthcare in her community. She aspires to introduce the advanced practices she has learned in New Zealand to her home country’s hospitals, determined to make a positive impact.
