Joint Centre for Disaster Research celebrates 20 years

In November 2026, the Joint Centre for Disaster Research (JCDR) will celebrate 20 years of research, education, and impact in disaster risk reduction and emergency management. We would love to welcome our alumni back to Wellington to celebrate with us.

Since 2006, we have worked alongside communities, practitioners, policymakers, and researchers to better understand and reduce disaster risk, while supporting generations of students who have gone on to make important contributions across New Zealand and around the world.

To mark this milestone, we will host a series of special anniversary events in Wellington from 2–4 November under the theme “Legacy, Change, and Leadership Towards a More Collaborative Emergency Management.”

The events will bring together alumni, current and former staff, students, collaborators, and partners to celebrate our shared journey, reconnect with old friends and peers, and explore the future of emergency management.
