Queens visit to Massey

Kia ora koutou,

We hope you are well as the year’s end starts to rapidly appear.

It’s been a busy time as we start to reengage with the world, which we’re very excited about. There have been wonderful alumni gatherings in both Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam and Paris – you can read more in the newsletter. We have a number of virtual and in-person events in the coming months, including a second session with MasterChef Brett McGregor and an engaging webinar by LT COL Peter Wood on Massey notable Sir Geoffrey Peren.

With all the upcoming activity, it is also important to pause and reflect on the recent news of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Queen Elizabeth II and her late husband, Prince Philip, visited Massey University in 1970. The royal couple were visiting Aotearoa New Zealand as part of the James Cook bicentenary celebrations, with children Prince Charles and Princess Anne. The Queen took time to meet students that day – a memory we are sure they are cherishing all these years later.

Until next time, stay safe and well.

Ngā mihi nui,
The Alumni team

Campus visit

A Manawatū campus visit

Massey alumni Denis Pool (L), Peter Harvey, and Dr Catherine Harvey, along with Peter’s wife Val, thoroughly enjoyed a recent visit to the Manawatū campus to view the refurbished Refectory to which they had donated.

Denis and Peter were Diploma of Agriculture students and graduated in 1958 before going on to further study and work in the New Zealand agricultural industry. Cathy graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science before going on to become a registered specialist in veterinary anatomic pathology.

All three lived in student accommodation on campus during their studies when the Refectory was used for dining and socialising. “We’ve been delighted to see what a wonderful job has been made of the building refurbishment. Our visit has brought back many happy memories of our time at Massey,” Peter shares.
