Kia ora koutou katoa,
We have recently completed our autumn season of graduations, welcoming another 3,348 students to the Massey alumni whānau.
Massey continues to make contributions to Aotearoa New Zealand in research, learning and teaching, and civic leadership, which you can read about in our recently released 2024 Annual Report. A key focus of 2024 was our financial recovery, and I’m pleased to say we made significant progress on a range of initiatives to support this, evidenced by our improved financial result of an operating surplus of $3.7 million. While this is a positive result, we remain committed to implementing our Financial Sustainability Plan to ensure long term stability, especially with the reduction in funding announced by the Government in their recent Budget.
I’ve enjoyed touring the North Island over the last few months as part of our domestic roadshows, and it’s been great seeing Massey staff visiting India, Sri Lanka and China too. The events were a wonderful opportunity to catch up with current and past students, as well as talking to business and community leaders about what Massey has on offer. Our inspirational alumni were involved in our domestic community events, sharing their stories and successes since their time at Massey. I just love seeing where life has taken our graduates.
Ngā mihi nui,
Professor Jan Thomas
Vice-Chancellor
