Massey University partners with Hobsonville Point Secondary School for student art showcase
Te Kunenga Ki PÅ«rehuroa Massey University had a successful showcase at the inaugural 2023 Art Point event in Onekiritea, Hobsonville Point. This year, the university is teaming up with Hobsonville Point Secondary School (HPSS) to deliver an exhibition with a group of their students.
Students from the school visited Massey University Auckland campus in August where they viewed works from the Massey Collection. Selecting works that particularly inspired them.
The exhibition, which is entitled “Influence,” will feature artworks from the Massey Collection on loan to HPSS displayed alongside artworks created by the students themselves. Students from years 9 to 11 have also taken on the roles of curator, project manager, and technician to bring the show to life under the guidance of Massey University Art Curator Mark Kaneko.
“The students were initially nervous to critique and discuss the work of major artists from Aotearoa, New Zealand, but after initially breaking the ice, they could really dig into what the work meant to them and identify those that really spoke to them and those that did not. Working with the students on this show has been incredibly rewarding and I’m excited to see the artworks they have made in response and the exhibition they deliver.”
