Kristina Kostovska
In 2020, Kristina Kostovska made the bold decision to pivot from a decade-long career in the legal industry to explore the realms of Psychology and Social Anthropology. Despite scepticism with comments like “Why would you study in your thirties?” and doubts about career prospects in her new fields, Kristina remained steadfast, guided by her convictions. “I followed the only voice that mattered, my own,” she recalls.
Her academic journey at Massey University was both challenging and enriching. Kristina’s passion for understanding the social aspects of human behaviour led her to pursue a dual major. On 23 May 2024, she celebrated a significant milestone, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Social Anthropology.
Kristina’s path wasn’t without its hurdles. Balancing full-time studies during the global pandemic, she also took on the role of sole caregiver for her parents, who had health complications at various times. Yet, among these challenges, she achieved remarkable academic success, earning multiple scholarships and the prestigious 2023 Social Anthropology Prize (300-level All Modes) for outstanding academic achievement.
“Studying is hard, and so is life, but when you have the support from people who see you as a human being and not just as a student, you feel like anything is possible,” Kristina shared. She expressed deep gratitude towards Massey University’s faculty, including the incredible lecturers, tutors, and academic advisors who supported her through her journey.
“I am so grateful to be able to continue my journey with you in pursuing my Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology via distance in North Macedonia this year, and I look forward to continuing my academic path with you in the years that follow. ”
Continuing her journey, Kristina departed from Auckland, New Zealand in February 2024 for Skopje, North Macedonia, where she embraced distance learning with Massey University. She documented her experiences, capturing how she balances daily activities and studies remotely.
