Emily Clark
Growing up in rural Waikato, Emily Clark developed a deep appreciation for both the land and the people who work it. “That connection to the rural sector has always been at the heart of who I am, and it’s what led me to Massey University, where I recently graduated with a Bachelor of Agribusiness, majoring in farm management,” she says.
In her final year of high school, she already knew the direction she wanted to take. “I knew I wanted to pursue a career that would allow me to stay connected to rural communities and help contribute to the future of New Zealand agriculture. Massey’s strong reputation in agricultural education made it an easy decision.”
Reflecting on her time at university, Emily highlights the value of learning that extends beyond the classroom. “One of the greatest highlights of my time at university was the knowledge I gained – not just in theory, but in real-world applications that I know will make a difference on the ground,” she says. She points to areas such as farm systems, rural business strategy, sustainability, and risk management as key strengths she developed – all of which she is eager to apply in meaningful ways.
Equally important to her were the relationships she formed. “The connections I made with like-minded peers and industry professionals who share my passion for the rural sector” made a lasting impression, she explains.
Emily credits much of her success to the support she received along the way. “I was fortunate to be surrounded by people who supported and encouraged me, especially my mum, who’s been a constant motivator, and the friends I made in first-year halls who I’m still close with today. That sense of community made a big impact on me and deepened my desire to give back to rural New Zealand.”
When asked what advice she would give future students, her message is clear: “Back yourself. Whether it’s stepping outside your comfort zone, starting something new, or saying yes to unexpected opportunities – just do it. That mindset opened doors for me, and I’m so glad I embraced it.”
As she looks ahead, Emily says she’s stepping into the next chapter with excitement and purpose. “My time at Massey was full of growth, both personally and professionally. As I look to the future, I’m excited to keep building on the knowledge and relationships I’ve formed, and to contribute meaningfully to the rural communities I care so deeply about. I may not have a rigid plan, but I’m stepping into the next chapter with confidence, curiosity, and a strong sense of purpose.”
