Wildbase Tour

Massey University warmly invites alumni, friends and those with a passion for saving New Zealand’s native wildlife to an after 5 function.  Specialist veterinarians from Wildbase (formerly the New Zealand Wildlife Health Centre) will speak about the ethics of wildlife rehabilitation and the achievements of Wildbase in that area as well as touching briefly on the Rena response.

Massy University’s Wildbase Hospital is at the forefront of research and discovery in the care and treatment of sick and injured wild animals and, in particular, New Zealand’s unique sea and land-based birds.  It is New Zealand’s only dedicated wildlife hospital and provides medical and surgical care for some of the most endangered wildlife on the planet.  Wildbase Hospital cares for around 270 animal patients per year with Kiwi and Takahe highly represented among them.  Of the 2,400 patients treated since 2001, around 180 have been Kiwi and of the 230 Takahe left in the world, 28 have been through the hospital.  We proudly invite you to hear more about the exciting and vital work the hospital’s talented team do in the area of wildlife health and conservation.
